When Richmond City's Jude Hindmarsh in the 10th minute got a chance for a shot 10th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Scunthorpe's goalie prevented a goal. In the 14th minute Jude Hindmarsh shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mitch McAleer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Richmond City getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Ed Workman hit a great ball. John Ellison received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Michael Zamora tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that John Ellison's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Michael Zamora was relentless in the 32nd minute of the game. If John Ellison had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Scunthorpe getting a freekick after 35 minutes play. James Wild hit a great ball. Quentin Reading missed a clear chance of a goal when in the 37 minute of the game fired away a shot, but unfortunally the ball went out to the Mitch McAleer right hand side. In the 45th minute, Kurt Kearney hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 46 minutes into the match, Richmond City's goal looked a bit too open when John Ellison came free, but Michael Zamora reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ivor Freeman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Michael Zamora having to interfere. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

After having played for 53 minutes, Kurt Kearney managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Richmond City's supporters crossed their fingers, but Kurt Kearney was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Michael Zamora showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ivor Freeman, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. Richmond City's Wayne Speed got a good chance for a goal in the 63rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Richmond City's Michael Zamora played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ivor Freeman in the 65th minute of play. Teddy Phippard kicked well hit freekick during the 66th minute of the match. In the 67th minute, John Ellison left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Scunthorpe fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. Michael Zamora made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from John Ellison in the 77th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Richmond City's zone, John Ellison stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Michael Zamora came out of the goal and John Ellison tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 85th minute, Ivor Freeman made a precise shot to the right of Michael Zamora. Richmond City's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-0. In the 93rd minute, Jude Hindmarsh got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 98 minutes into the game, Jermaine Howard was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Scunthorpe's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Richmond City the free kick. Jermaine Howard kicked well hit freekick during the 98th minute of the match. Quentin Reading, 99 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal.
