The audience was convinced that Kristopher Bodsworth's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Brynn Delaney was relentless in the 10th minute of the game. Lennie Houghton charged in rather forcefully in the 29th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. After some fancy dribbling in the 41st minute, Tosh Ashton managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ingatestone's supporters rose to their feet, but Tosh Ashton was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Brynn Delaney breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 47 minutes, Tosh Ashton managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ingatestone's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tosh Ashton was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After the first half Ingatestone were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Kristopher Bodsworth stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Tosh Ashton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 54th minute, Cliff Evans hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Lennie Houghton was shown his second yellow card after 59 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. With his leg Brynn Delaney managed to avoid a goal in the 68thth minute, when Ingatestone's Kristopher Bodsworth fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Ian Rothery sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
