If Ben Rose had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Justin Kershaw took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Len Dunne, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Camberwell's Justin Kershaw played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Len Dunne in the 17th minute of play. If Shane Hornsby had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the match had gone on for 21 minutes, Len Dunne put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Justin Kershaw. Peter Worrall hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. Justin Kershaw showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Shane Hornsby, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. Barrie MacDonald fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Justin Kershaw having to interfere. Rowner's supporters rose to their feet, but Shane Hornsby was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Justin Kershaw breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. A collision led to Camberwell getting a freekick after 46 minutes play. Theo Downton hit a great ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Len Dunne to make the kick off. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Len Dunne in the 55th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Justin Kershaw saved Camberwell from getting behind. Gordon Bzeu kicked well hit freekick during the 59th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Camberwell's Rupert Lister got a free kick in the 63rd minute. In the 68th minute, John-Paul Hardcastle hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that John-Paul Hardcastle couldn't finish the play. Camberwell's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Rowner the free kick.
