After recieving a nice pass, Old Bexley City's John Cooper tried to score from far away in the 6th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Brad Hibbert who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 12thth minute tested the skills of Phillip Redwood-Turner when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The supporters of Romford booed when Old Bexley City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. John Cooper didn't get a good kick on the ball. Phillip Redwood-Turner made an important save on a dangerous shot by Brad Hibbert in the 16th minute. Paddy Doughty made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Andy Kenworthy in the 18th minute of play. Paddy Doughty took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tim Meade, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the match had gone on for 37 minutes, Brad Hibbert put it in 1-0 from a short distance just to the right of Phillip Redwood-Turner. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
