Dom Brearley who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 23rdth minute tested the skills of Jonathon Barnes when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Gordon Naylor took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Devon Chiverton, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Widnes's Gordon Naylor played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dom Penn in the 27th minute of play. George Scargill fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathon Barnes having to interfere. The supporters of Widnes booed when Thurmaston City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gordon Naylor showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Devon Chiverton, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
