Seating: 1752, VIP seats: 0) The mood of the audience was pleasant when Stephen Sargent made the kick off which started today's match. If Jonny Christensen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 4th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 5thth minute of the game Stephen Sargent who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Widnes's Gordon Naylor was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Ken Winterbine showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tommy Mulligan, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. If Stephen Sargent had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Buster Coyle's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gordon Naylor read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 18th minute of play. In the 20th minute George Scargill shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ken Winterbine saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gordon Naylor came out of the goal in the 22nd minute to try and stop a shot by Hoo United's Stephen Sargent. But to his dismay, Stephen Sargent quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. 25 minutes into the game, Buster Coyle cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-0. Gordon Naylor was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 4-0 became the score in the 28th minute when Buster Coyle elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Buster Coyle received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Gordon Naylor tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 42nd minute, Buster Coyle got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The Hoo United fans' excitement grew in the 44th match minute when Hoo United's Stephen Sargent looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 6-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when George Scargill stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute Al Walters shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gordon Naylor saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Buster Coyle had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gordon Naylor made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jonny Christensen in the 55th minute of play. Dom Brearley hit a great freekick 56 minutes into the match. After having played for 61 minutes, Shaun Watson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Widnes's supporters crossed their fingers, but Shaun Watson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 62nd minute George Scargill shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ken Winterbine saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 64 minutes into the match, Hoo United's goalkeeper Ken Winterbine had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Dom Brearley. When the match had gone on for 68 minutes, Stephen Sargent put it in 7-0 from a short distance just to the right of Gordon Naylor. In the 71st minute the ball was on its way in behind Widnes's goalkeeper Gordon Naylor, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 75 minutes into the match, Stephen Sargent notched a goal, 8-0, to the right of Widnes's Gordon Naylor. Gordon Naylor was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Al Walters took the ball and in the 79 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Gordon Naylor. Gordon Naylor dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 9-0. The crowd rose to their feet as Widnes's Shaun Watson slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Ken Winterbine. That made the score 9-1 after 87 minutes of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jonny Christensen in the 91st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Gordon Naylor saved Widnes from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in Widnes's zone, Al Walters stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gordon Naylor came out of the goal and Al Walters tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Jonny Christensen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 94th minute, Stephen Sargent left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Hoo United fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 10-1. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Hoo United fully deserved thier win.
