After 11 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Ashton-in-Makerfield City! Keiran Gill kicked well hit freekick during the 16th minute of the match. 19 minutes into the game, Ian Stone was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Portsmouth FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ashton-in-Makerfield City the free kick. A collision led to Portsmouth FC getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Ian Stone hit a great ball. Martin Crichton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Grant Mitchell-King tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tommy Cryan in the 24th minute of play forced Ashton-in-Makerfield City's goalkeeper Ronnie Rayner to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Ashton-in-Makerfield City's zone, Tommy Cryan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ronnie Rayner came out of the goal and Tommy Cryan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 29th minute of the match, Tommy Cryan tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Ronnie Rayner saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Grant Mitchell-King showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Martin Crichton, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. In the 33rd match minute, Portsmouth FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Charlie Henry to maneuver through the defense. Grant Mitchell-King made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Martin Crichton in the 34th minute of play. A hard shot 38 in the game by Simeon Rushforth from a close distance when the talented Ronnie Rayner managed to make a qualified save. Ashton-in-Makerfield City's players were relieved. 1-1 became the score in the 47th minute when Martin Crichton elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Tommy Cryan made a kick off. Tommy Cryan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. Ronnie Rayner tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Martin Crichton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 62nd match minute, Ashton-in-Makerfield City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by William Gerrard to maneuver through the defense. With his leg Grant Mitchell-King managed to avoid a goal in the 70thth minute, when Ashton-in-Makerfield City's Martin Crichton fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Ashton-in-Makerfield City's Ronnie Rayner played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Simeon Rushforth in the 79th minute of play. Tommy Cryan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ronnie Rayner having to interfere. In the 86th minute Tommy Cryan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ronnie Rayner saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Martin Crichton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 89th minute, Andre Carter managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ashton-in-Makerfield City's supporters rose to their feet, but Andre Carter was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Grant Mitchell-King breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Martin Crichton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute.
