The referee showed Jeff Kitchen the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 3 played minutes Heswall City got a freekick which was hit by Jeff Kitchen. Marty Woodward sent away a hard shot on goal in the 5th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Joshua Potterton made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alan Ellison in the 6th minute of play. A collision led to Padiham getting a freekick after 10 minutes play. Benji Housham hit a great ball. In the 12th match minute, Padiham was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Benji Housham to maneuver through the defense. In the 13th minute, Benji Housham hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Joshua Potterton showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marty Woodward, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. When Harvey Ford fell near the penalty area in the 18th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Padiham's protests and gave Harvey Ford a yellow card for diving instead. In the 18th minute, Harvey Ford hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 19 minutes into the match, Padiham's goal looked a bit too open when Lawrence Ferdinand came free, but Len Housham reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Joshua Potterton made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alan Ellison in the 21st minute of play. Marty Woodward took the ball and in the 26 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Joshua Potterton. Joshua Potterton dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Fitz Neville was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 33rd played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 39th minute of the game. One of Heswall City:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Padiham:s goal. Leon Gerrard shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Marty Woodward received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Joshua Potterton tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 45th minute Alan Ellison shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Joshua Potterton saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 47 minutes into the match, Heswall City's Zane Holyfield sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Len Housham narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

In the 53rd minute, Marty Woodward left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Padiham fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-3. After a defensive mix-up in Padiham's zone, Zane Holyfield stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Len Housham came out of the goal and Zane Holyfield tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 62nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Heswall City's goalkeeper Joshua Potterton, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Marty Woodward recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 64th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 67thth minute of the game Alan Ellison who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Heswall City's Joshua Potterton was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Joshua Potterton showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alan Ellison in the 71st minute of the match. Lawrence Ferdinand sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Zane Holyfield had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marty Woodward's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Joshua Potterton read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 78th minute of play. Through an outstanding action, after 81 minutes, Joshua Potterton successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. After a defensive mix-up in Heswall City's zone, Marty Woodward stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Joshua Potterton came out of the goal and Marty Woodward tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Marty Woodward sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Jeff Kitchen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute. Len Housham tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Alan Ellison had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 95 minutes into the game, Padiham's Marty Woodward nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Joshua Potterton made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-4. The Padiham players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
