Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Doug Plant got the match started through his kick off. In the 4th minute Doug Plant shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lennie Webster saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Huyton United's Lennie Webster played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Doug Plant in the 12th minute of play. Kris Fowler hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. Zak Croxford's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Marty Borrowdale read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 17th minute of play. In the 24th minute of the match Alton got a corner. Huyton United's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Ash Doughty ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Ash Doughty got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Lennie Webster quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Doug Plant succeeded in the game's 27th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-0. In the 29th match minute, Alton was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Glen Hirst to maneuver through the defense. In the 31st minute, Harvey Bishop hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Zak Croxford had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Lennie Webster came out of the goal in the 39th minute to try and stop a shot by Alton's Martyn Hickson. But to his dismay, Martyn Hickson quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. In the 45th minute, Zak Croxford got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

52 minutes into the match, Zak Croxford notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Alton's Marty Borrowdale. Marty Borrowdale was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Pete Corcoran who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 55thth minute tested the skills of Marty Borrowdale when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 58th minute, Kris Fowler hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Lennie Webster didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Doug Plant went, in the 60th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-1 was the resulting score. After a rather tough play, Huyton United's Harvey Bishop got a free kick in the 64th minute. Huyton United's Lennie Webster played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Doug Plant in the 67th minute of play. The supporters of Alton booed when Huyton United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 71 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mark Strickland didn't get a good kick on the ball. Pete Corcoran fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marty Borrowdale having to interfere. If Martyn Hickson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Huyton United's zone, Doug Plant stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lennie Webster came out of the goal and Doug Plant tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Harvey Bishop hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Alton had won after a very even match.
