Topsham Stadium
Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000,
Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Rob Woodier kicked off to start the match. In the 7th match minute, Stonehouse was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Callum Banim to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 9 minutes, Lance Clifford managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Stonehouse's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lance Clifford was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A hard shot 16 in the game by Rob Woodier from a close distance when the talented Vernon Longstaffe managed to make a qualified save. Stonehouse's players were relieved. Rob Woodier sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience thought a goal was coming when Kurt Waple got free with Vernon Longstaffe in the 21st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Rob Woodier recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 24th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Callum Banim hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. The long shot by Geoff Cryan in the 27th minute really tested Vernon Longstaffe's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. If Rob Woodier had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 29th match minute, Stonehouse was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luke Gunn to maneuver through the defense. Rob Woodier might have been able to make a better finish in the 37th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Vernon Longstaffe. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Rob Woodier ran back to his position shaking his head. Kurt Waple sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Kurt Waple could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 39th minute of the match, but Vernon Longstaffe made a huge save. If Rob Woodier had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vernon Longstaffe showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Romeo Bacon in the 42nd minute of the match. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.
The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Luke Deaconsfield during the 52nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Topsham's Luke Deaconsfield got a free kick in the 52nd minute. Kurt Waple struck a weak shot in the 58th minute. Vernon Longstaffe didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Topsham. 58 minutes into the match, Rob Woodier had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Vernon Longstaffe. Stonehouse's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Rob Woodier was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Topsham's Kurt Waple got a good chance for a goal in the 65th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Basil Coulthard took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 78th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Vernon Longstaffe. Stonehouse's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. If Rob Woodier had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Stonehouse's Vernon Longstaffe played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rob Woodier in the 83rd minute of play. After 85 played minutes Topsham got a freekick which was hit by Jeff Martindale. The audience was convinced that Lance Clifford's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Stewart Cook was relentless in the 88th minute of the game. Rob Woodier fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vernon Longstaffe having to interfere. If Kurt Waple had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Topsham fans' excitement grew in the 96th match minute when Topsham's Rob Woodier looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 3-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. When the referee ended the match the Topsham players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
