The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Lloyd Horsell showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ged Lennon, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Keith Moxon during the 17th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 19th minute, David Drury hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ged Lennon recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 23rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 24 played minutes Fairfield got a freekick which was hit by David Drury. Lloyd Horsell showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ged Lennon in the 30th minute of the match. In the 32nd minute Ged Lennon shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lloyd Horsell saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Warren Riley received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Lloyd Horsell tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fairfield's Lloyd Horsell played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ged Lennon in the 36th minute of play. Warren Riley who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 39thth minute tested the skills of Lloyd Horsell when he managed to save the team from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ged Lennon in the 41st minute of play forced Fairfield's goalkeeper Lloyd Horsell to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ged Lennon to make the kick off. In the 57th minute, Ian Beck ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Lloyd Horsell was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. With a little luck, London United's Marlon Stansfield got control of the ball when Paul Bevan tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 60 played minutes London United got a freekick which was hit by Peter Medlin. In the 64th minute Zackary Bray shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marlon Stansfield saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 70 minutes into the game, Brandon Hatcher was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Fairfield's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave London United the free kick. After 69 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Fairfield! Lloyd Horsell showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Warren Riley in the 79th minute of the match. 86 minutes into the game, Paul Bevan lined in a short shot 3-2 behind a frustrated Marlon Stansfield. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Spike Tucker during the 97th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 97th match minute, London United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Spike Tucker to maneuver through the defense. London United's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
