Gerry West made an important save on a dangerous shot by Allan Strong in the 7th minute. A collision led to Sutton in Ashfield AFC getting a freekick after 9 minutes play. Vince Digby took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gregory Gerrard, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 28th minute, Gregory Gerrard managed to get in a good position for a shot. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Rodney Horsell was the one to do the kick off. Folkestone AFC's Gerry West played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jez Glanvill in the 55th minute of play. Allan Strong struck a weak shot in the 72nd minute. Gerry West didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sutton in Ashfield AFC. If Allan Strong had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead.
