The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 4 minutes into the game, Jeff Swanson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Torpoint City's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Thornham the free kick. After 4 played minutes Torpoint City got a freekick which was hit by Jeff Swanson. Graeme Froggatt stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Bart Helks's shot from short distance in the 7th minute. In the 8th minute, Bill Gerrard got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 10 minutes into the match, Thornham's goal looked a bit too open when Jeff Swanson came free, but Malcolm Hudson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Malcolm Hudson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Theo Rundle in the 16th minute of play. In the 18th minute, Theo Rundle made a precise shot to the right of Malcolm Hudson. Thornham's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. 20 minutes into the game, Ben Lodge was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Torpoint City's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Thornham the free kick. After a rather tough play, Torpoint City's Ben Lodge got a free kick in the 20th minute. 31 minutes into the match, Thornham's goal looked a bit too open when Jeff Swanson came free, but Malcolm Hudson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 37 minutes into the match, Theo Rundle notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of Thornham's Malcolm Hudson. Malcolm Hudson was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Bart Helks came up free with the goalie in the 40th minute, the Thornham fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Bart Helks couldn't finish the play. 43 minutes into the game, Theo Rundle cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-3. Malcolm Hudson was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-3 lead.
After 52 played minutes Thornham got a freekick which was hit by Bill Gerrard. In the 54th minute of the game, Bart Helks landed unfortunately after trying to head the ball, and pulled a muscle in the back, so badly that he had to leave the field. Paddy Grayson's late challenge caught a Thornham's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Paddy Grayson helped the player get up and apologised. After 54 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Torpoint City! In the 56th minute there was a penalty for Thornham. Bill Gerrard stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Graeme Froggatt. 1-3. Graeme Froggatt stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Adrian Piercy's shot from short distance in the 59th minute. After 69 minutes, Roger Banks mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Thornham and the Torpoint City players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 70th minute of the match Dom Longstaff sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Malcolm Hudson skillfully saved the ball. Jeff Swanson scored 2-4 in the 72nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Malcolm Hudson, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When Thornham's Adrian Piercy in the 75th minute got a chance for a shot 75th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Thornham's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Adrian Piercy received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Graeme Froggatt tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 80th match minute, Torpoint City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rich Smith to maneuver through the defense. When Thornham's Adrian Piercy in the 82nd minute got a chance for a shot 82nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Torpoint City's goalie prevented a goal. After 88 minutes of play, Torpoint City's Theo Rundle made it 2-5 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Malcolm Hudson was left in no man's land by his defense there! Adrian Piercy might have been able to make a better finish in the 91st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Graeme Froggatt. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Adrian Piercy ran back to his position shaking his head. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Adrian Piercy in the 93rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Graeme Froggatt saved Torpoint City from getting behind. Bill Gerrard fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Graeme Froggatt having to interfere. 96 minutes into the game, Theo Rundle was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Torpoint City's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Thornham the free kick. After a rather tough play, Torpoint City's Theo Rundle got a free kick in the 96th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Andy Hampton during the 97th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Andy Hampton hit a great freekick 97 minutes into the match. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Thornham lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
