Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Adam Notley started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. In the 3rd match minute, Ripon United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Byron Howarth to maneuver through the defense. When Adam Notley came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the Ripon United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Adam Notley couldn't finish the play. Louie Ainsworth came out of the goal in the 14th minute to try and stop a shot by Horwich United's Leigh McCartney. But to his dismay, Leigh McCartney quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Leigh McCartney kicked a quick shot right in front of the goal in the 19thth minute. Though ot was a great shot Ripon United's keeper Louie Ainsworth was sill able to block leaving the score board unchanged. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Adam Notley in the 25th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Larry Wybrow saved Horwich United from getting behind. Byron Howarth hit a great freekick 25 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Ripon United's Micheal Briggs got a free kick in the 27th minute. Louie Ainsworth made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dave Sheldon in the 28th minute of play. Larry Wybrow stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Adam Notley's shot from short distance in the 30th minute. After having played for 34 minutes, Phil Bassett managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ripon United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Phil Bassett was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Phil Bassett in the 41st minute of play forced Horwich United's goalkeeper Larry Wybrow to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 44th minute of the match Stan Mayfield shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Larry Wybrow showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Leigh McCartney got free with Louie Ainsworth in the 45th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a rather tough play, Horwich United's Jon Couch got a free kick in the 46th minute. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Gareth Glanvill to make the kick off. Miles Cowling hit a great freekick 51 minutes into the match. When Horwich United's Gareth Glanvill in the 53rd minute got a chance for a shot 53rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Ripon United's goalie prevented a goal. Horwich United's Leigh McCartney got a good chance for a goal in the 55th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Gareth Glanvill sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The Horwich United fans' excitement grew in the 58th match minute when Horwich United's Gareth Glanvill looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Phil Bassett in the 70thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Larry Wybrow, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Gareth Glanvill's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Louie Ainsworth read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 74th minute of play. 78 minutes into the match, Horwich United's goalkeeper Larry Wybrow had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Phil Bassett. The supporters of Horwich United booed when Ripon United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Byron Howarth didn't get a good kick on the ball. Louie Ainsworth showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leigh McCartney in the 90th minute of the match. Horwich United's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
