Wesley Coyle stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Larry Wybrow. 1-0. Larry Wybrow showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Shane Baum, who was totally free with the ball in the 10th minute. Doug Houghton showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leigh McCartney in the 11th minute of the match. Shane Baum's late challenge caught a Horwich United's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Shane Baum helped the player get up and apologised. In the 12th match minute, Botley FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Shane Baum to maneuver through the defense. Doug Houghton made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leigh McCartney in the 14th minute of play. After 16 minutes, Jon Couch mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Horwich United and the Botley FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wesley Coyle in the 18th minute of play forced Horwich United's goalkeeper Larry Wybrow to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Wesley Coyle was extremely unlucky when he, in the 19th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. After 23 minutes, Wesley Coyle made it 2-0 with a short kick to the right side. Dennis Mortimer hit a great ball. Gareth Glanvill scored 3-1 in the 32nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Doug Houghton, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Jon Couch took the ball and in the 40 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Doug Houghton. Doug Houghton dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-2. In the 45th minute, Gareth Glanvill hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Wesley Coyle made the kick off in the second half. Doug Houghton took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Archie Davey, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Larry Wybrow prevented the ball from getting in the gole.
