After some fancy dribbling in the 36th minute, Philip Tomkin managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Liverpool's supporters rose to their feet, but Philip Tomkin was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Francis Hassell breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Philip Tomkin received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Francis Hassell came out and tried to block the shot, but Philip Tomkin slotted it home off the left post making it 2-0 in the 40th minute. Heywood's Wesley Moorhouse got his second yellow card of the match in the 44th minute. The referee ordered Wesley Moorhouse off the ground. Wesley Moorhouse kicked well hit freekick during the 45th minute of the match. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

If Peter Bull had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Heywood's supporters crossed their fingers, but Peter Bull was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Danny Myers got free with Harvey Hewitt in the 67th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With a little luck, FC Liverpool's Harvey Hewitt got control of the ball when Peter Bull tried to sneak it across the goal line. Louie Tubbs charged in rather forcefully in the 74th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Louie Tubbs the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Francis Hassell showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Philip Tomkin in the 80th minute of the match. Philip Albright recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 82nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Peter Bull fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Harvey Hewitt having to interfere.
