The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Pondersbridge FC's Kasey Nicholls played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Benji Searle in the 4th minute of play. In the 14th minute of the match Scott Lawson sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Kasey Nicholls skillfully saved the ball. A collision led to Cambridge XXX getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Chris Sheridan hit a great ball. After 22 played minutes Pondersbridge FC got a freekick which was hit by Graham Stobbs. Reg Crane could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 30th minute of the match, but Jim Munday made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Conal Gibbons in the 31st minute of play forced Cambridge XXX's goalkeeper Jim Munday to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Pondersbridge FC's Kasey Nicholls played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roy Stewart in the 33rd minute of play. An unexpected shot in the 37th minute by Reg Crane got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. If Damion Hargreaves had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Julian Strongman's late challenge caught a Pondersbridge FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Julian Strongman helped the player get up and apologised. Julian Strongman hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match. Reg Crane received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 49th minute. Jim Munday tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Conal Gibbons to make the kick off. If Conal Gibbons had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jim Munday took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Reg Crane, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Damion Hargreaves fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kasey Nicholls having to interfere. The crowd rose to their feet as Roy Stewart kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Kasey Nicholls. That made the score 0-2 in the 73 minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 77th minute, Conal Gibbons managed to get in a good position for a shot. Pondersbridge FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Conal Gibbons was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jim Munday breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Roy Stewart received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Kasey Nicholls tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 83rd play minute Damion Hargreaves came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Kasey Nicholls. 0-3. In the 95th minute, Roy Stewart reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Kasey Nicholls. The goal made the score 0-4. The Cambridge XXX players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
