Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Peter Masters made the kick off and thus started the match. Jim Munday was a little too slow when Ryan Childs got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 3rd minute. The score was now 1-0. Damion Hargreaves sent away a hard shot on goal in the 7th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 8th minute, Ralph Sheldon hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Clive Adamson stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Roy Stewart's shot from short distance in the 13th minute. Roy Stewart sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Lenny Endean charged in rather forcefully in the 18th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Lenny Endean the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to England getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Lenny Endean hit a great ball. Peter Masters received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Jim Munday tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With 28 minutes on the clock, John Paul Porter commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In the 27th minute, one of England:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for England. In the 29th minute there was a penalty for Cambridge XXX. Scott Lawson stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Clive Adamson. 1-1. Ryan Childs fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jim Munday having to interfere. Lenny Endean hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. Ryan Childs received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Jim Munday tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ralph Sheldon blasted a shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jim Munday having to make a save. 44 minutes into the game, Andrew Barber was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. England's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Cambridge XXX the free kick. The referee gave Cambridge XXX a penalty, 46 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Scott Lawson, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of England's Clive Adamson. 1-2. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Roy Stewart to make the kick off. When Damion Hargreaves came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the Cambridge XXX fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Damion Hargreaves couldn't finish the play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ryan Childs in the 58th minute of play forced Cambridge XXX's goalkeeper Jim Munday to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Lenny Endean's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jim Munday read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 59th minute of play. Jim Munday showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ryan Childs, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. If Lenny Endean had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ryan Childs received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Jim Munday tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Cambridge XXX's zone, Silvester Tipton stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jim Munday came out of the goal and Silvester Tipton tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 79 minutes into the match, England's Ryan Childs sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jim Munday narrowly saved just below the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ryan Childs in the 80th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jim Munday saved Cambridge XXX from getting behind. Cambridge XXX's Damion Hargreaves suffered a sore knee after 83 minutes and couldn't finish the game. When Andrew Barber was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 83 minutes had been played. The referee gave Cambridge XXX a penalty, 86 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Scott Lawson, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of England's Clive Adamson. 1-3. Ralph Sheldon fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jim Munday having to interfere. After 91 minutes, Chris Sheridan mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Cambridge XXX and the England players grew even worse after the yellow card. Lenny Endean came free in the 95th minute and tried to tip the ball over Jim Munday, but to the joy of Cambridge XXX's supporters the ball went over. 98 minutes into the match, Cambridge XXX's goal looked a bit too open when Ralph Sheldon came free, but Jim Munday reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Chants of Cambridge XXX echoed around the stadium as the match drew to a close. Supporters and players were both delighted with the win, as England had held the ball for most of the match.
