In the 7thth minute of the game Wesley Kerr who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Saint Denis FC's Jacob Gibson was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Mick Garnett's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gerry Birch read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 9th minute of play. When Saint Denis FC's Mick Garnett in the 12th minute got a chance for a shot 12th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Oldham City's goalie prevented a goal. 13 minutes into the game, Vernon Caine was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Oldham City's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Saint Denis FC the free kick. Vernon Caine kicked well hit freekick during the 13th minute of the match. Vernon Caine was shown his second yellow card after 17 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. The supporters of Saint Denis FC booed when Oldham City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vernon Caine didn't get a good kick on the ball. Joel Wilkins took the ball and in the 23 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jacob Gibson. Jacob Gibson dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. Joel Wilkins's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jacob Gibson read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 28th minute of play. When the match clock showed 31 minutes, the score became 2-1 when Mick Garnett sped through Oldham City's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Gerry Birch. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

Mick Garnett struck a weak shot in the 52nd minute. Gerry Birch didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Saint Denis FC. In the 54th match minute, Saint Denis FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sly Naylor to maneuver through the defense. 56 minutes into the game, Ashley Childs was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Oldham City's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Saint Denis FC the free kick. In the 56th minute, Ashley Childs hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Mick Garnett received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Gerry Birch tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some careless play in the Oldham City defense, Mick Garnett kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Gerry Birch. The Oldham City fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gerry Birch should have stopped the shot. After a rather tough play, Saint Denis FC's Sol Hylton got a free kick in the 73rd minute. When Sol Hylton was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 74 minutes had been played. Sol Hylton kicked well hit freekick during the 74th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Oldham City's Joel Wilkins got a free kick in the 76th minute. Tris Featherson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gerry Birch having to interfere. Joel Wilkins received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute. Jacob Gibson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Sly Naylor during the 90th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Saint Denis FC getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Sly Naylor hit a great ball. After having played for 94 minutes, Tris Featherson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Saint Denis FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tris Featherson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 95 played minutes Oldham City got a freekick which was hit by Calvin Hay.
