John-Paul Gunn breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of North Kilworth booed when Tottenham Hotspurs was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bruce Starr didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 25th minute, Jimmy Fletcher sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Tottenham Hotspurs's John-Paul Gunn didn't even have to move. In the 32nd minute, James Sugden fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of John-Paul Gunn, passed just outside the right post. When Peter Mallaby came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the North Kilworth fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Peter Mallaby couldn't finish the play. John-Paul Gunn showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from James Sugden in the 36th minute of the match. North Kilworth's Rio Floyd played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rick Friebe in the 38th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by James Sugden in the 42nd minute of play forced Tottenham Hotspurs's goalkeeper John-Paul Gunn to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Giles Backhouse stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Pete Bridgewater charged in rather forcefully in the 51st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Pete Bridgewater the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Shane Calder in the 55th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg John-Paul Gunn saved Tottenham Hotspurs from getting behind. James Sugden sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 58 played minutes North Kilworth got a freekick which was hit by Pierce Westwood. Rio Floyd made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pete Bridgewater in the 60th minute of play. Rick Friebe received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Rio Floyd tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 72 minutes, Shane Calder managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. North Kilworth's supporters crossed their fingers, but Shane Calder was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With a little luck, North Kilworth's Rio Floyd got control of the ball when Rick Friebe tried to sneak it across the goal line. Shane Calder fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without John-Paul Gunn having to interfere. The audience was convinced that James Sugden's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but John-Paul Gunn was relentless in the 81st minute of the game. After a defensive mix-up in Tottenham Hotspurs's zone, James Sugden stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. John-Paul Gunn came out of the goal and James Sugden tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Shane Calder fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without John-Paul Gunn having to interfere. Wally Mumford received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. John-Paul Gunn tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
