Kev Foley started the match with the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Long Hanborough AFC's zone, Charlie Whitman stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lawrence Moss came out of the goal and Charlie Whitman tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. FC Royal Brigade's Stew Blake played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kev Foley in the 15th minute of play. Lance Townsend sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. FC Royal Brigade's Lance Townsend got a good chance for a goal in the 23rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 32nd match minute, Long Hanborough AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gerry Trunks to maneuver through the defense. In the 33rd minute Charlie Whitman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lawrence Moss saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Neil Young got free with Stew Blake in the 35th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Neil Young received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Stew Blake came out and tried to block the shot, but Neil Young slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 35th minute. Stew Blake took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kev Foley, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Long Hanborough AFC's Neil Young got a good chance for a goal in the 46th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Lance Townsend was the one to do the kick off. Long Hanborough AFC's Neil Young got a good chance for a goal in the 55th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Robin Wills charged in rather forcefully in the 58th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Robin Wills the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play.
