Barmby on the Marsh
Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Dean Coburn started the match with the kick off. Miles Le Tissier spun around in front of the goal 3 minutes in the game, and got away a shot that, to his disappointment, went to the left of PugPugPug CF's goal. With his leg Eddy Newton managed to avoid a goal in the 6thth minute, when Barmby on the Marsh's Miles Le Tissier fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. If Chip Gilchrist had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 7th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. PugPugPug CF's Eddy Newton played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Chip Gilchrist in the 9th minute of play. 15 minutes into the game, Miles Le Tissier cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Eddy Newton was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 19th minute, Ben Tynan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. David Welsh's late challenge caught a Barmby on the Marsh's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. David Welsh helped the player get up and apologised. When the match had been going on for 27 minutes, Barmby on the Marsh's Felix Parrott got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Eddy Newton. If Chip Gilchrist had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. David Welsh hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. Felix Parrott was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 37th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. The supporters of Barmby on the Marsh booed when PugPugPug CF was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dean Coburn didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Chip Gilchrist had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 45 minutes into the game, Barmby on the Marsh's Miles Le Tissier nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Eddy Newton made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0. Chip Gilchrist sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.

Barmby on the Marsh were awarded a corner in the 53th minute after PugPugPug CF's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Felix Parrott took the corner. A well-hit corner resulted in Cliff Weedon heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. In the 59thth minute of the game Miles Le Tissier who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but PugPugPug CF's Eddy Newton was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Barmby on the Marsh's Chip Gilchrist got a good chance for a goal in the 63rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Chip Gilchrist recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 73rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Chip Gilchrist sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Chip Gilchrist in the 79th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Eddy Newton saved PugPugPug CF from getting behind. 81 minutes into the match, Chip Gilchrist had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Eddy Newton. PugPugPug CF's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Chip Gilchrist was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-0. In the 85th minute, Miles Le Tissier got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. PugPugPug CF's Eddy Newton played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Chip Gilchrist in the 86th minute of play. When Chip Gilchrist came up free with the goalie in the 89th minute, the Barmby on the Marsh fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Chip Gilchrist couldn't finish the play. A collision led to PugPugPug CF getting a freekick after 92 minutes play. Fred Froggatt hit a great ball. The audience was convinced that Chip Gilchrist's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Eddy Newton was relentless in the 95th minute of the game. There was no doubt that Barmby on the Marsh were the better team. Barmby on the Marsh's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
