Spectators: 7626 (Terracing: 5760, Seating: 1766, VIP seats: 100) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Erik Wennerqvist started the match with the kick off. Des Conway received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 5th minute. Kev Frost tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Vernon Gower during the 10th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Galacticos booed when Southampton was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vernon Gower didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Gary Kaye fell near the penalty area in the 11th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Southampton's protests and gave Gary Kaye a yellow card for diving instead. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 11th minute of the game. One of Southampton:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Galacticos:s goal. The referee gave Galacticos a penalty, 13 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Erik Wennerqvist, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Southampton's Kev Frost. 0-1. Kev Frost showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Erik Wennerqvist, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. After having played for 24 minutes, Erik Wennerqvist managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Galacticos's supporters crossed their fingers, but Erik Wennerqvist was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Simon Tompkins could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 27th minute of the match, but Honorato Jeraldo made a huge save. After 28 played minutes Galacticos got a freekick which was hit by Des Conway. In the 30th minute, Erik Wennerqvist ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Kev Frost was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. The Galacticos fans' excitement grew in the 33rd match minute when Galacticos's Erik Wennerqvist looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-3 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Erik Wennerqvist fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kev Frost having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 40th minute, Erik Wennerqvist managed to get in a good position for a shot. Galacticos's supporters rose to their feet, but Erik Wennerqvist was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Kev Frost breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 42nd minute, Francis Donnelly got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Galacticos's Honorato Jeraldo proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 44th minute of the match, managed to save Galacticos from getting a goal against them. Galacticos's defense didn't have a chance, in the 44th minute, when Simon Tompkins scored to the left of an out of position Honorato Jeraldo, making the score, 1-3. 48 minutes into the game, Erik Wennerqvist cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-4. Kev Frost was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After the first half Galacticos were leading 1-4. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Francis Donnelly stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Kev Frost made an important save on a dangerous shot by Des Conway in the 54th minute. If Erik Wennerqvist had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 57th minute, Galacticos's Erik Wennerqvist dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-5. Erik Wennerqvist recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 60th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Simon Tompkins's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Honorato Jeraldo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 62nd minute of play. With a little luck, Southampton's Kev Frost got control of the ball when Erik Wennerqvist tried to sneak it across the goal line. When the match clock showed 68 minutes, the score became 1-6 when Erik Wennerqvist sped through Southampton's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Kev Frost. When %teams%'s Erik Wennerqvist was free in front of goal, he didn't hesitate to shoot 1-8 just inside the left pole, 80 minutes into the game. Kev Frost was annoyed at himself for letting in the shot. Erik Wennerqvist blasted a shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Kev Frost having to make a save. Erik Wennerqvist's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Kev Frost read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 85th minute of play. Francis Donnelly scored 2-8 in the 86th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Honorato Jeraldo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Southampton's Kev Frost proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 90th minute of the match, managed to save Southampton from getting a goal against them. If Rich Radcliffe had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Kev Frost came out of the goal in the 95th minute to try and stop a shot by Galacticos's Cosmo Brown. But to his dismay, Cosmo Brown quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-9. When Francis Donnelly came up free with the goalie in the 99th minute, the Southampton fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Francis Donnelly couldn't finish the play. When the match was over Galacticos could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Southampton throughout the match.
