Spectators: 7491 (Terracing: 5619, Seating: 1723, VIP seats: 149) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Eric Lansdell started the match with the kick off. After 3rd play minutes Eric Lansdell shot 0-1, a short shot which went by Jerome Clapham and just under the crossbar into goal. Denny Barton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 7th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Clacton City's Denny Barton in the 13th minute got a chance for a shot 13th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Newark's goalie prevented a goal. In the 15th match minute, Clacton City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jeffrey Browne to maneuver through the defense. Alf Mumford might have been able to make a better finish in the 18th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jerome Clapham. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Alf Mumford ran back to his position shaking his head. The Newark fans' excitement grew in the 20th match minute when Newark's Eric Lansdell looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Newark's Eric Lansdell got a good chance for a goal in the 27th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After some careless play in the Clacton City defense, Alf Mumford kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jerome Clapham. The Clacton City fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jerome Clapham should have stopped the shot. Eric Lansdell received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Jerome Clapham tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Newark's Eric Lansdell got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Alf Mumford fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jerome Clapham having to interfere. In the 40th minute, Fred Couch hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 42nd minute Alf Mumford shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jerome Clapham saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Eric Lansdell sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ashley Farrow received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 48th minute. Louie Jefferson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-3.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Denny Barton made a kick off. After 56 minutes, Carlton Booker mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Newark and the Clacton City players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 56th match minute, Newark was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Carlton Booker to maneuver through the defense. Ashley Farrow sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Sam Haylock kicked well hit freekick during the 59th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Clacton City's zone, Trev Butterfield stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jerome Clapham came out of the goal and Trev Butterfield tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With a little luck, Clacton City's Jerome Clapham got control of the ball when Alf Mumford tried to sneak it across the goal line. Perry Brown kicked well hit freekick during the 75th minute of the match. After 77 played minutes Clacton City got a freekick which was hit by Fred Couch. Eric Lansdell received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. Jerome Clapham tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jerome Clapham showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eric Lansdell in the 89th minute of the match. If Eric Lansdell had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 92 minutes into the match, Clacton City's goal looked a bit too open when Eric Lansdell came free, but Jerome Clapham reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Alf Mumford fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jerome Clapham having to interfere. In the 95th minute the ball was on its way in behind Clacton City's goalkeeper Jerome Clapham, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Newark played a much better game than Clacton City and deserved their victory. The Clacton City players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
