Walthamstow Park
Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000,
Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Newark's Eric Lansdell started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. With a little luck, Newark's Louie Jefferson got control of the ball when Roger Lumb tried to sneak it across the goal line. 3 minutes into the match, Roger Lumb dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Louie Jefferson, 1-0. Ian Woodier sent away a hard shot on goal in the 6th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A collision led to Walthamstow getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Mattias Mallaby hit a great ball. Newark's Rio Heywood couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 12th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Walthamstow. In the 17th minute the ball was on its way in behind Walthamstow's goalkeeper Nicholas Cheetham, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 18th minute, one of Walthamstow:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Walthamstow. 27 minutes into the game, Roger Lumb was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Walthamstow's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Newark the free kick. A collision led to Walthamstow getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Roger Lumb hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Newark's Patrick Grantham got a free kick in the 33rd minute. Carlton Booker kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. If Ian Woodier had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ian Woodier was the one to do the kick off. In the 53rd match minute, Newark was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alf Mumford to maneuver through the defense. Franz Ferdinand received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute. Louie Jefferson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 56 minutes, Ian Woodier managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Walthamstow's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ian Woodier was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ian Woodier received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 58th minute. Louie Jefferson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 59 played minutes Newark got a freekick which was hit by Ian Bannatyne. Damien Croxford kicked well hit freekick during the 65th minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Mattias Mallaby during the 67th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Walthamstow getting a freekick after 67 minutes play. Mattias Mallaby hit a great ball. In the 68th minute of the match Rio Heywood sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Nicholas Cheetham skillfully saved the ball. In the 70th minute of the match Dom Leather sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Louie Jefferson skillfully saved the ball. Alf Mumford fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nicholas Cheetham having to interfere. After 78 minutes, Ian Woodier mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Walthamstow and the Newark players grew even worse after the yellow card. A long shot from Rio Heywood in the 79th minute of play was well struck, but Nicholas Cheetham made a really good save at the right post. Newark's Alf Mumford was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 80th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. In the 83rd minute, Alf Mumford got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The supporters of Walthamstow booed when Newark was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eric Lansdell didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 86th match minute, Walthamstow was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Toby Gilchrist to maneuver through the defense. Alf Mumford sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Eric Lansdell's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nicholas Cheetham read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 91st minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Walthamstow's zone, Alf Mumford stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nicholas Cheetham came out of the goal and Alf Mumford tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Eric Lansdell received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Nicholas Cheetham tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Newark walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
