Spectators: 7151 (Terracing: 5651, Seating: 1450, VIP seats: 50) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Piers Postolan got the match started through his kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Piers Postolan in the 5th minute of play forced Kuton FC's goalkeeper Nigel Morris to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Harry Blowman hit a great freekick 6 minutes into the match. 9 minutes into the match, Francis Towler notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Kuton FC's Nigel Morris. Nigel Morris was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Kuton FC's Vince Fordham got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Frankie Upson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 21st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After some fancy dribbling in the 24th minute, Graeme Jobling managed to get in a good position for a shot. Helsby United's supporters rose to their feet, but Graeme Jobling was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nigel Morris breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Nigel Morris took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Piers Postolan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Kuton FC booed when Helsby United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pedro Jones didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Frankie Upson got free with Louis Roche in the 45th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Louis Roche came out of the goal in the 46th minute to try and stop a shot by Kuton FC's Vince Fordham. But to his dismay, Vince Fordham quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Jim Fairfax to strike the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the match, Helsby United's goal looked a bit too open when Jim Fairfax came free, but Louis Roche reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Piers Postolans short, quick shot in the 54thth minute got Nigel Morris to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Piers Postolan in the 57th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Nigel Morris prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Harry Blowman hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. Graeme Jobling sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. A collision led to Helsby United getting a freekick after 63 minutes play. Francis Towler hit a great ball. Piers Postolan received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Nigel Morris came out and tried to block the shot, but Piers Postolan slotted it home off the left post making it 1-2 in the 67th minute. Piers Postolan did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-3 to the left of a surprised Nigel Morris 75 minutes into the match. Graeme Jobling received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. Nigel Morris tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 88 played minutes Helsby United got a freekick which was hit by Jo Platt. After a defensive mix-up in Helsby United's zone, Kevin Green stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Louis Roche came out of the goal and Kevin Green tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Kuton FC getting a freekick after 95 minutes play. Jeff Almond hit a great ball. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Helsby United eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
