Jeremy Tully came out of the goal in the 6th minute to try and stop a shot by Catford City's Rick Hurst. But to his dismay, Rick Hurst quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Jeremy Tully took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Peter Senior, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Vince Corbett kicked well hit freekick during the 12th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, newman united's Rupert Lofthouse got a free kick in the 13th minute. Sam Burton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Liam Bryden during the 19th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, newman united's Liam Bryden got a free kick in the 19th minute. During the 23rd minute of the match Liam Bryden completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Liam Bryden a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Jeremy Tully made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jez Buckley in the 43rd minute of play. If Jez Buckley had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sam Burton kicked well hit freekick during the 45th minute of the match. Sam Burton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Sam Burton was the one to do the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Peter Senior managed to get in a good position for a shot. Catford City's supporters rose to their feet, but Peter Senior was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jeremy Tully breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Jez Buckley's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 54thth minute, Jeremy Tully skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. In the 56th minute, Jez Buckley ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jeremy Tully was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. In the 59th minute, Catford City's Peter Senior dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-3. 62 minutes into the game, Sam Burton was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. newman united's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Catford City the free kick. After 62 played minutes newman united got a freekick which was hit by Sam Burton. Jason Folwill struck a weak shot in the 63rd minute. Jeremy Tully didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Catford City. In the 64th minute, Sam Burton hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jez Buckley received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 66th minute. Jeremy Tully tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jeremy Tully showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rick Hurst, who was totally free with the ball in the 68th minute. newman united's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Rick Hurst 69 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 0-4. In the 76th match minute, Catford City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rick Coleman to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, Catford City's Rick Hurst got a free kick in the 78th minute. Jez Buckley's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 80thth minute, Jeremy Tully skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Rick Coleman hit a great freekick 83 minutes into the match. Peter Senior recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 91st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Jez Buckley hit a great freekick 94 minutes into the match. Rupert Lofthouse struck a weak shot in the 96th minute. Phil Turner didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for newman united. When the final whistle sounded Catford City left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than newman united.
