Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Marty Proctor started the match with the kick off. 17 minutes into the game, Waterlooville AFC's Tony Forrest nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Vic Morgan made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. The audience was convinced that Fred Coogan's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Vic Morgan was relentless in the 21st minute of the game. Fred Gilchrist was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but David Foggarty showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-1 in the 34 minute of play. After 40 played minutes Waterlooville AFC got a freekick which was hit by Kristian Brooks. 41 minutes into the match, southport fc's Alfie Basham broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Quentin Ellis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Fred Gilchrist tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 47th match minute, Waterlooville AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tony Dalton to maneuver through the defense. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The wind increased when David Foggarty made the kick off in the second half. In the 54thth minute of the game Quentin Ellis who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Waterlooville AFC's Fred Gilchrist was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. David Foggarty received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Fred Gilchrist tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Fred Coogan fell near the penalty area in the 59th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Waterlooville AFC's protests and gave Fred Coogan a yellow card for diving instead. Fred Coogan hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. Fred Gilchrist showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from David Foggarty, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. David Foggarty sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 64th match minute, southport fc was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rueben Niven to maneuver through the defense. David Foggarty fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fred Gilchrist having to interfere. Matthew Humphreys's late challenge caught a Waterlooville AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Matthew Humphreys helped the player get up and apologised. In the 75th match minute, southport fc was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Matthew Humphreys to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by David Foggarty in the 79th minute of play forced Waterlooville AFC's goalkeeper Fred Gilchrist to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. southport fc's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Alfie Basham in the 80th minute. David Foggarty took the ball and in the 83 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Fred Gilchrist. Fred Gilchrist dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. After 89 minutes of play, southport fc's David Foggarty made it 3-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Fred Gilchrist was left in no man's land by his defense there! Tony Forrest's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Vic Morgan read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 96th minute of play. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. southport fc fully deserved thier win.
