Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Brandon Halliday started the match with the kick off. Luke Horner stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Marty West's shot from short distance in the 4th minute. A collision led to Honiton getting a freekick after 5 minutes play. Stan Newbury hit a great ball. In the 7thth minute of the game Marty West who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Honiton's Luke Horner was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Battle AFC's Marty West got a good chance for a goal in the 10th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Stan Newbury during the 19th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Battle AFC booed when Honiton was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Stan Newbury didn't get a good kick on the ball. After recieving a nice pass, Battle AFC's Howard Scott tried to score from far away in the 20th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. After 23 played minutes Honiton got a freekick which was hit by Drew Vickers. Howard Scott might have been able to make a better finish in the 24th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Luke Horner. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Howard Scott ran back to his position shaking his head. Jez Wallbank sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Stan Newbury hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. Stan Newbury hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. Howard Scott was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 40th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. When Battle AFC's Jez Wallbank in the 43rd minute got a chance for a shot 43rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Honiton's goalie prevented a goal. Battle AFC's Marty West got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 47th minute, Marty West made a precise shot to the right of Luke Horner. Honiton's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Honiton's Luke Horner played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marty West in the 57th minute of play. With his leg Luke Horner managed to avoid a goal in the 58thth minute, when Battle AFC's Jez Wallbank fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. After having played for 60 minutes, Marty West managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Battle AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marty West was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Jez Wallbank did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 0-3 to the left of a surprised Luke Horner 64 minutes into the match. Ivan Le Tissier made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rex Wardle in the 68th minute of play. Honiton's Luke Horner proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 83rd minute of the match, managed to save Honiton from getting a goal against them. Brandon Halliday hit a great freekick 86 minutes into the match. With a little luck, Honiton's Luke Horner got control of the ball when Jez Wallbank tried to sneak it across the goal line. Jez Wallbank's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Luke Horner firmly grabbed it by the left post. Marty West sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Luke Horner took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marty West, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
