The referee ignored The Oxford Blues's protests and gave Ryan Moore a yellow card for diving instead. Ryan Moore kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. After 25 minutes, Louis Jones mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Exeter and the The Oxford Blues players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of The Oxford Blues booed when Exeter was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Louis Jones didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lewis Rigg received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Ruben Key tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Lewis Rigg fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ruben Key having to interfere. If Wesley Duff had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

The wind increased when Lewis Rigg made the kick off in the second half. Kevin Watson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wesley Duff in the 52nd minute of play. Lewis Rigg sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 56 minutes, Lewis Rigg managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Exeter's supporters crossed their fingers, but Lewis Rigg was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ashley Pearch recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 57th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a rather tough play, The Oxford Blues's Ged Greenwood got a free kick in the 58th minute. Nigel Sills might have been able to make a better finish in the 63rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Kevin Watson. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Nigel Sills ran back to his position shaking his head. Lewis Rigg's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ruben Key read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 66th minute of play. Lewis Rigg received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 70th minute. Ruben Key tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Wesley Duff sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 77 minutes into the match, The Oxford Blues's goal looked a bit too open when Lewis Rigg came free, but Ruben Key reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The Oxford Blues's Ruben Key played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lewis Rigg in the 81st minute of play. If Ashley Pearch had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Wesley Duff kicked well hit freekick during the 89th minute of the match. Stan Cain fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ruben Key having to interfere. Ryan Moore hit a great freekick 94 minutes into the match. When Wesley Duff was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 96 minutes had been played.
