But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rodney Greenfield couldn't finish the play. The audience was convinced that Rodney Greenfield's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Peter Wooding was relentless in the 14th minute of the game. In the 15th minute, Rodney Greenfield reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Peter Wooding. The goal made the score 1-0. 19 minutes into the match, Bakewell FC's goalkeeper Peter Wooding had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Kurt Cusack. Tim Shackleton kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. 24 minutes into the game, Kurt Cusack cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Peter Wooding was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Rodney Greenfield received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Peter Wooding tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Alfie Tubbs had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alfie Tubbs in the 31st minute of play forced Hornchurch's goalkeeper Louie Butterfield to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 34 minutes, Rodney Greenfield managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Hornchurch's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rodney Greenfield was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 38 minutes into the match, Bakewell FC's goal looked a bit too open when Rodney Greenfield came free, but Peter Wooding reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 38th match minute, Bakewell FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cody Darko to maneuver through the defense. In the 40th minute, Kurt Cusack got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Kurt Cusack fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Peter Wooding having to interfere. If Kurt Cusack had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Alfie Tubbs stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Peter Wooding stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Kurt Cusack's shot from short distance in the 56th minute. In the 57th minute, Joe Burgess hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Kurt Cusack came up free with the goalie in the 62nd minute, the Hornchurch fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kurt Cusack couldn't finish the play. In the 63rd match minute, Bakewell FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Joe Burgess to maneuver through the defense. Peter Wooding showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rodney Greenfield in the 66th minute of the match. In the 68th minute, Alfie Tubbs fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Kurt Cusack sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Rodney Greenfield fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Peter Wooding having to interfere. Ralf Gill sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 79th minute, Kurt Cusack got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Peter Wooding made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1. In the 89th minute Kurt Cusack shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Peter Wooding saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jerry Haylock might have been able to make a better finish in the 95th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Peter Wooding. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jerry Haylock ran back to his position shaking his head. Louie Butterfield made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfie Tubbs in the 98th minute of play. Hornchurch walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
