Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) INVASION's Sean Hackney started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 5 played minutes INVASION got a freekick which was hit by Sean Hackney. Roger Davis hit a great freekick 6 minutes into the match. Gez Adams fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Louie Butterfield having to interfere. In the 12th minute, Jerry Haylock hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 13th minute, Gez Adams got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Kurt Cusack got free with Pat Willoughby in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 21st minute, Gavin Alsford sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Hornchurch's Louie Butterfield didn't even have to move. In the 25th minute, Kurt Cusack got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a rather tough play, INVASION's Garth Sheldon got a free kick in the 31st minute. Sean Hackney took the ball and in the 37 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Louie Butterfield. Louie Butterfield dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. In the 43rd minute, Jerry Haylock hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 44th minute of the match Gavin Alsford shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Louie Butterfield showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. When the match had gone on for 47 minutes, Rodney Greenfield put it in 2-1 from a short distance just to the right of Pat Willoughby. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

In the 54th minute Kurt Cusack shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pat Willoughby saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Pat Willoughby showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kurt Cusack in the 55th minute of the match. During the 64th minute of the match Jerry Haylock completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Jerry Haylock a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Hornchurch's Louie Butterfield proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 68th minute of the match, managed to save Hornchurch from getting a goal against them. Louie Butterfield made an important save on a dangerous shot by Gez Adams in the 70th minute. In the 71st minute Sean Hackney shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Louie Butterfield saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Hornchurch's Louie Butterfield played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sean Hackney in the 72nd minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 74th minute, Gez Adams managed to get in a good position for a shot. INVASION's supporters rose to their feet, but Gez Adams was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Louie Butterfield breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Pat Willoughby came out of the goal in the 80th minute to try and stop a shot by Hornchurch's Kurt Cusack. But to his dismay, Kurt Cusack quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-1. In the 86thth minute of the game Sean Hackney who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Hornchurch's Louie Butterfield was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Louie Butterfield made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sean Hackney in the 91st minute of play. INVASION's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
