Seating: 1200, VIP seats: 50) The mood of the audience was pleasant when Gerry Bourne made the kick off which started today's match. Louie Rowling took the ball and in the 6 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Alec Marston. Alec Marston dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fitz Searle in the 9th minute of play forced Bromborough's goalkeeper Alec Marston to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Bromborough's Gerry Bourne got a good chance for a goal in the 30th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Alec Marston showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fitz Searle in the 45th minute of the match. Bromborough's Alec Marston played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fitz Searle in the 47th minute of play. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Louie Rowling to make the kick off. Rupert Lomas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 53rd minute, Upwell's Louie Rowling dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-2. 58 minutes into the game, Kristopher Millman cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Dean Sutton was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Gerry Bourne sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Louie Rowling came up free with the goalie in the 62nd minute, the Upwell fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Louie Rowling couldn't finish the play. Alec Marston made a fantastic save in the 64th minute, when Fitz Searle sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Bromborough getting a freekick after 64 minutes play. Syd Unsworth hit a great ball. In the 69th minute there was a penalty for Upwell. Dale Pollard stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Alec Marston. 1-3. Louie Rowling sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Eddy Beavan hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match. After 91 played minutes Upwell got a freekick which was hit by Piers Burgess. When Fitz Searle came up free with the goalie in the 94th minute, the Upwell fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Fitz Searle couldn't finish the play. Bromborough's Alec Marston played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Louie Rowling in the 96th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Upwell's zone, Gerry Bourne stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dean Sutton came out of the goal and Gerry Bourne tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Upwell walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
