Spectators: 7488 (Terracing: 5617, Seating: 1722, VIP seats: 149) Henry Simpson started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. After a rather tough play, Alton's Sidney Macken got a free kick in the 3rd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Reg Eastham in the 4th minute of play forced Alton's goalkeeper Brendon Prior to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Brendon Prior made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tom Prendergast in the 8th minute of play. In the 14th minute, Blair Ingham made a precise shot to the right of Brendon Prior. Alton's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. After having played for 17 minutes, Blair Ingham managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Welford's supporters crossed their fingers, but Blair Ingham was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When the match had gone on for 25 minutes, Blair Ingham put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Brendon Prior. If Reg Eastham had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 29th minute, Bart Bridgeman hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 33rd minute Blair Ingham shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brendon Prior saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Reg Eastham received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 42nd minute. Brendon Prior tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Blair Ingham had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Scott Peyton made a fantastic save in the 48th minute, when Grant Blackwell sent off a good shot on target. The Alton players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Welford were winning 0-2.

The wind increased when Reg Eastham made the kick off in the second half. Blair Ingham fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Brendon Prior having to interfere. Reg Eastham succeeded in the game's 55th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 0-3. Brendon Prior showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Reg Eastham in the 66th minute of the match. After 71 played minutes Welford got a freekick which was hit by Tom Prendergast. Scott Peyton showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Henry Simpson in the 74th minute of the match. Reg Eastham struck a weak shot in the 81st minute. Brendon Prior didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Welford. After 84th play minutes Reg Eastham shot 0-4, a short shot which went by Brendon Prior and just under the crossbar into goal.
