St. Etienne's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that George Halliday was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. After 13 played minutes St. Etienne got a freekick which was hit by Felix Chapman. St. Etienne's Joe Ellerby played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Casey Oliver in the 14th minute of play. Middlesbrough Ironopolis's Tyrone Hartshorn proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 15th minute of the match, managed to save Middlesbrough Ironopolis from getting a goal against them. Joe Ellerby made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Brandon Cotton in the 17th minute of play. In the 21st minute, Joel Castledine ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Tyrone Hartshorn was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. St. Etienne's Joe Ellerby played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by George Halliday in the 24th minute of play. In the 29th match minute, Middlesbrough Ironopolis was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Casey Oliver to maneuver through the defense. After some careless play in the St. Etienne defense, Lenny Carr kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Joe Ellerby. The St. Etienne fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Joe Ellerby should have stopped the shot. After 36 minutes St. Etienne's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Brandon Cotton who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Brandon Cotton almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but St. Etienne's Joe Ellerby did a great save. Joe Ellerby made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from George Halliday in the 45th minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

After a rather tough play, Middlesbrough Ironopolis's Pierre Beverley got a free kick in the 50th minute. Middlesbrough Ironopolis's Tyrone Hartshorn played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Harvey Branch in the 52nd minute of play. When George Halliday fell near the penalty area in the 53rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Middlesbrough Ironopolis's protests and gave George Halliday a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Middlesbrough Ironopolis getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. George Halliday hit a great ball. Sebastien Murtagh hit a great freekick 56 minutes into the match. Joe Ellerby made an important save on a dangerous shot by George Halliday in the 59th minute. In the 61st minute, Middlesbrough Ironopolis's Casey Oliver dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-3. George Halliday struck a weak shot in the 65th minute. Joe Ellerby didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Middlesbrough Ironopolis. 68 minutes into the game, St. Etienne's Seth England nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Tyrone Hartshorn made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-3. In the 72nd match minute, St. Etienne was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Joel Castledine to maneuver through the defense. 74 minutes into the match, George Halliday dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Joe Ellerby, 2-4. Stan Myers charged in rather forcefully in the 76th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Stan Myers the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 76th minute, Stan Myers hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 79 played minutes St. Etienne got a freekick which was hit by Joel Castledine. 83 minutes into the match, St. Etienne's goal looked a bit too open when Casey Oliver came free, but Joe Ellerby reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to St. Etienne getting a freekick after 85 minutes play. Harvey Branch hit a great ball. After some careless play in the St. Etienne defense, George Halliday kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Joe Ellerby. The St. Etienne fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Joe Ellerby should have stopped the shot. The referee felt a red card was in order, 90 minutes into the game, when Pierre Beverley put in a rough tackle. The referee gave St. Etienne a penalty, 92 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Eddie Knowles, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Middlesbrough Ironopolis's Tyrone Hartshorn. 3-5. Lenny Carr blasted a shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Joe Ellerby having to make a save. The St. Etienne supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Middlesbrough Ironopolis's performance. The match ended with a win for Middlesbrough Ironopolis.
