Carl Pilkington charged in rather forcefully in the 32nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Carl Pilkington the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 32 played minutes New York Cosmos AFC got a freekick which was hit by Carl Pilkington. Instead the ball went too high, a missed opportunity for FC Partizan Minsk. Rowan Bacon's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 47thth minute, Paul Newbury skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Stefan Chegwyn made a kick off. New York Cosmos AFC's Pete Rundle got a good chance for a goal in the 51st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rowan Bacon in the 53rd minute of play forced New York Cosmos AFC's goalkeeper Paul Newbury to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 59 played minutes FC Partizan Minsk got a freekick which was hit by Wes Izzard. 62 minutes into the match, New York Cosmos AFC's Jo Allanson sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jamal Weatherhead narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Pete Rundle got free with Jamal Weatherhead in the 63rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. FC Partizan Minsk's supporters crossed their fingers, but Stefan Chegwyn was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 93rd play minute Pete Rundle came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Jamal Weatherhead. 3-2. FC Partizan Minsk's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
