Dale Nelson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ian Caton in the 11th minute of play. 13 minutes into the match, Wes Wills notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Yardley's Pete Eslworth. Pete Eslworth was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 16th minute, Dave Willets hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience was convinced that Sidney Dunn's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Pete Eslworth was relentless in the 17th minute of the game. After 27 minutes of play, Yardley's Ian Caton made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Dale Nelson was left in no man's land by his defense there! When the match had gone on for 32 minutes, Sidney Dunn put it in 2-1 from a short distance just to the right of Pete Eslworth. When Dave Willets fell near the penalty area in the 35th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Yardley's protests and gave Dave Willets a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Yardley getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Pat Tisdale hit a great ball. A hard shot 40 in the game by Sidney Dunn from a close distance when the talented Pete Eslworth managed to make a qualified save. Yardley's players were relieved. Lucas Ball received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Pete Eslworth tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Zack Langdon fell near the penalty area in the 46th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Yardley's protests and gave Zack Langdon a yellow card for diving instead. In the 46th match minute, Yardley was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Zack Langdon to maneuver through the defense. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Sidney Dunn made a kick off. The crowd rose to their feet as Yardley's Stephen Goodfellow slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Dale Nelson. That made the score 2-2 after 59 minutes of play. Pete Eslworth showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jon Newman, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. The AFC Wimbledon Wombles fans' excitement grew in the 64th match minute when AFC Wimbledon Wombles's Sidney Dunn looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 3-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Sidney Bancroft kicked well hit freekick during the 71st minute of the match. After having played for 72 minutes, Ian Caton managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Yardley's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ian Caton was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 74th minute, Ian Caton got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When the match clock showed 78 minutes, the score became 4-2 when Sidney Dunn sped through Yardley's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Pete Eslworth. Pat Tisdale hit a great freekick 81 minutes into the match. 83 minutes into the match, Yardley's goal looked a bit too open when Jon Newman came free, but Pete Eslworth reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ian Caton's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dale Nelson read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 85th minute of play. Zack Langdon fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dale Nelson having to interfere. A collision led to AFC Wimbledon Wombles getting a freekick after 88 minutes play. Ralph Page hit a great ball. In the 91st match minute, Yardley was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ian Caton to maneuver through the defense. Ian Caton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dale Nelson having to interfere. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. AFC Wimbledon Wombles fully deserved thier win.
