Louie Hicks took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ozzy Norton, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 6th minute, Darryl Simpson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ozzy Norton scored 0-1 in the 9th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Louie Hicks, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Dominic Seaman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Louie Hicks having to interfere. Darryl Simpson could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 17th minute of the match, but Robbie Gamble made a huge save. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Ron Garrett managed to get in a good position for a shot. Wakefield Wanderers's supporters rose to their feet, but Ron Garrett was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Robbie Gamble breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ozzy Norton in the 25th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Louie Hicks saved Wakefield Wanderers from getting behind. Wakefield Wanderers's Louie Hicks played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ozzy Norton in the 27th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Wakefield Wanderers's Conan Blake got a free kick in the 27th minute. The supporters of Wakefield Wanderers booed when Bury AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Robert Smith didn't get a good kick on the ball. Robbie Gamble showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Darryl Simpson, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. Vic Carragher took the ball and in the 34 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Louie Hicks. Louie Hicks dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. In the 37th minute, Ozzy Norton made a precise shot to the right of Louie Hicks. Wakefield Wanderers's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-3. Ron Garrett received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Robbie Gamble came out and tried to block the shot, but Ron Garrett slotted it home off the left post making it 1-3 in the 42nd minute. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-3.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Darryl Simpson made a kick off. With an all-out effort, Bury AFC's Louie Hicks threw himself towards the right post 63 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Vic Carragher, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. After a rather tough play, Wakefield Wanderers's Conan Blake got a free kick in the 64th minute. In the 68th minute, Dominic Seaman made a precise shot to the right of Louie Hicks. Wakefield Wanderers's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-4. Louie Hicks was out of position in the 74 minute of play, and Ozzy Norton capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Ozzy Norton really showed his touch with that goal: 1-5. After some fancy dribbling in the 83rd minute, Ron Garrett managed to get in a good position for a shot. Wakefield Wanderers's supporters rose to their feet, but Ron Garrett was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Robbie Gamble breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 87 minutes into the match, Wakefield Wanderers's goalkeeper Louie Hicks had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Dominic Seaman. Nial Sherman hit a great freekick 89 minutes into the match. Louie Hicks made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ozzy Norton in the 90th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Kristian Tanner during the 92nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. When the match had been going on for 93 minutes, Bury AFC's Tom Haywood got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Louie Hicks. Bury AFC's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
