Den Watson was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Conal Gray to make the kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Damian Patterson got free with Den Watson in the 51st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The crowd rose to their feet as Jack Carey-Bertram kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Den Watson. That made the score 1-6 in the 53 minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Conal Gray in the 59th minute of play forced Thirsk's goalkeeper Den Watson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Thirsk's Den Watson got control of the ball when Jack Carey-Bertram tried to sneak it across the goal line.
