The audience thought a goal was coming when Spike Holyfield got free with Jack Nethercot in the 36th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With an all-out effort, Romsey FC's Jack Nethercot threw himself towards the right post 43 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Ivan Hartley, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Stuart Welsh received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 44th minute. Norman Delamore tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Spike Holyfield could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 46th minute of the match, but Jack Nethercot made a huge save. In the 47th minute, Jay Attwood reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Jack Nethercot. The goal made the score 2-1. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Des Hutchinson to make the kick off. In the 68th minute, Des Hutchinson left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net.
