One of Buzau:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Wirral Town FC:s goal. The goalkeeper, Gerry Howarth, was totally fooled by Wirral Town FC's Stewart Probert, who 16 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. In the 21st minute Stewart Locke shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gerry Howarth saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Wirral Town FC's Tod Ingram played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bill Daly in the 24th minute of play. Stewart Probert could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 30th minute of the match, but Gerry Howarth made a huge save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bill Daly in the 31st minute of play forced Wirral Town FC's goalkeeper Tod Ingram to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 33 minutes into the game, Stewart Locke recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Gerry Howarth. Stewart Locke showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-0. Stewart Locke received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Gerry Howarth tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 43 minutes into the match, Buzau's goal looked a bit too open when Stewart Locke came free, but Gerry Howarth reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.

The wind increased when Bill Daly made the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Seth Mabbutt hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Wirral Town FC booed when Buzau was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Albert Sykes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Gerry Howarth showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Stewart Locke in the 59th minute of the match. When Timothy Knightley fell near the penalty area in the 61st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Wirral Town FC's protests and gave Timothy Knightley a yellow card for diving instead. After 61 played minutes Wirral Town FC got a freekick which was hit by Timothy Knightley. When Sebastian Musgrove came up free with the goalie in the 62nd minute, the Buzau fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Sebastian Musgrove couldn't finish the play. Wirral Town FC's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
