Raimundo Heli stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Brett Varley's shot from short distance in the 20th minute. 21 minutes into the match, Blair Moyse notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of Steaua's Raimundo Heli. Raimundo Heli was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After a rather tough play, Steaua's Dean Baldwin got a free kick in the 24th minute. Ivor Henwood fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Raimundo Heli having to interfere. In the 28th minute Brett Varley shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Raimundo Heli saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Eric Jepson kicked well hit freekick during the 32nd minute of the match. When the match had gone on for 36 minutes, Ahmet Bedri Durusan took a quick shot and it went in 2-2 without a chance for Nicholas Cooke to make any attempt to save it. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alfred Childs in the 43rd minute of play forced Elsdon's goalkeeper Nicholas Cooke to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 46 minutes into the match, Benjamin Henman had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Nicholas Cooke. Elsdon's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Benjamin Henman was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-2. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Dean Baldwin stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the match, Elsdon's goal looked a bit too open when Dean Baldwin came free, but Nicholas Cooke reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
