The audience thought a goal was coming when Barry Peat got free with Alf Battersby in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 22 minutes into the match, Daryl Simms dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Alf Battersby, 2-0. 26 minutes into the game, Wolf Rex's Donald Moyle nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Kevin West made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. Kevin West took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Benjamin Barfield, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Marty Stayton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd rose to their feet as Barry Peat kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Alf Battersby. That made the score 3-1 in the 34 minute of play. After 40 played minutes Dover Athletic FC got a freekick which was hit by Damian Digby. Wolf Rex's Alf Battersby played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daryl Simms in the 44th minute of play. Hugh Haskell sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-1 at half-time.

The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Loyd Francis during the 52nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 82 minutes of play Dover Athletic FC's Damian Digby was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. After 83 played minutes Dover Athletic FC got a freekick which was hit by Damian Digby. In the 86th minute, Robert Renner hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Kevin West was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Hugh Haskell showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 4-3 in the 89 minute of play. In the 98th match minute, Wolf Rex was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marlon Power to maneuver through the defense.
