Seating: 1856, VIP seats: 50) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Walter Castledine got the match started through his kick off. Vic Kerr hit a great freekick 2 minutes into the match. 10 minutes into the match, Machiavellian's goal looked a bit too open when Benjamin Barfield came free, but Johnny Brooke reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Keanu Wardell in the 11th minute of play forced Wolf Rex's goalkeeper Alf Battersby to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Wolf Rex's Hugh Haskell got a good chance for a goal in the 14th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Donald Moyle had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Hugh Haskell in the 19th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Johnny Brooke saved Machiavellian from getting behind. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Keanu Wardell during the 20th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. If Benjamin Barfield had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Wolf Rex's Benjamin Barfield got a good chance for a goal in the 25th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 30th minute Shawn Sutton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alf Battersby saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Benjamin Barfield came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the Wolf Rex fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Benjamin Barfield couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 38th minute, Walter Castledine managed to get in a good position for a shot. Machiavellian's supporters rose to their feet, but Walter Castledine was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Alf Battersby breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Alf Battersby took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ray Alsop, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 43 minutes into the match, Shawn Sutton had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Alf Battersby. Wolf Rex's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Shawn Sutton was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Benjamin Barfield to make the kick off. In the 53rd minute Ray Alsop collided with an opponent which caused him a fractured collar bone. After a rather tough play, Wolf Rex's Marlon Power got a free kick in the 54th minute. 58 minutes into the match, Machiavellian's goal looked a bit too open when Benjamin Barfield came free, but Johnny Brooke reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Marty Stayton during the 59th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Marty Stayton hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. Hugh Haskell sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Shawn Sutton struck a weak shot in the 70th minute. Alf Battersby didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Machiavellian. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Marty Stayton in the 74th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Johnny Brooke prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Shawn Sutton's late challenge caught a Wolf Rex's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Shawn Sutton helped the player get up and apologised. Shawn Sutton kicked well hit freekick during the 75th minute of the match. After 78 minutes, Benjamin Barfield made it 1-1 with a short kick to the right side. Machiavellian's Johnny Brooke tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Alf Battersby made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Walter Castledine in the 91st minute of play. Marty Stayton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Johnny Brooke tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
