Denis Swift showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Barry Peat, who was totally free with the ball in the 8th minute. Joel Bowler fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Denis Swift having to interfere. Kevin West showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Harry Pickering in the 15th minute of the match. In the 19th minute Barry Peat shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Denis Swift saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 20 minutes into the match, Daryl Simms had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Denis Swift. Andover's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Daryl Simms was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. After a rather tough play, Andover's Brendon Couzens got a free kick in the 27th minute. 32 minutes into the game, Andover's Harry Pickering nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Kevin West made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. With a little luck, Dover Athletic FC's Kevin West got control of the ball when Harry Pickering tried to sneak it across the goal line. Paul Armstrong fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Denis Swift having to interfere. Paul Armstrong received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 44th minute. Denis Swift tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Brendon Doona made a kick off. In the 64th minute, Joel Bowler left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Dover Athletic FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-2. Barry Peat could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 69th minute of the match, but Denis Swift made a huge save. In the 72nd minute, Dover Athletic FC's Paul Armstrong ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Denis Swift. Denis Swift yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-3. 76 minutes into the game, Daryl Simms cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-4. Denis Swift was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Kevin West took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Danny Sadler, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Denis Swift made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daryl Simms in the 81st minute of play. Kevin West showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Danny Sadler, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. If Daryl Simms had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 89th minute, Brendon Couzens hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Dover Athletic FC had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
