After 3 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Farnborough! Gez Heslop's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Rowan Savage read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 10th minute of play. After some careless play in the Farnborough defense, Gez Heslop kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Rowan Savage. The Farnborough fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Rowan Savage should have stopped the shot. If Bob Brennan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 19 minutes into the game, Alf Chandler was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Laindon FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Farnborough the free kick. The supporters of Farnborough booed when Laindon FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alf Chandler didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bob Brennan in the 32nd minute of play forced Farnborough's goalkeeper Rowan Savage to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Winnie Harrison charged in rather forcefully in the 33rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Winnie Harrison the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 33rd match minute, Farnborough was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Winnie Harrison to maneuver through the defense. When Malcolm Allwright came up free with the goalie in the 37th minute, the Farnborough fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Malcolm Allwright couldn't finish the play. Winnie Harrison fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Kurt Miles having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Malcolm Allwright couldn't finish the play. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Laindon FC had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
