In the 11th minute, Benjamin Caton fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Benjamin Caton kicked well hit freekick during the 14th minute of the match. After 17 played minutes Viking Rovers got a freekick which was hit by Ralf Silk. A collision led to Viking Rovers getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Ian Pointon hit a great ball. 25 minutes into the game, Vince Adcock was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Huddersfield FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Viking Rovers the free kick. Vince Adcock hit a great freekick 25 minutes into the match. Aaron Newman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dom Cullen having to interfere. Andy Windsor hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. 34 minutes into the game, Viking Rovers's Aaron Newman nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dom Cullen made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. Marty Higginson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Phil Guest took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Karl Picker, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

After a rather tough play, Viking Rovers's Trev Patten got a free kick in the 51st minute. The supporters of Viking Rovers booed when Huddersfield FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vince Adcock didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 58 played minutes Viking Rovers got a freekick which was hit by Kristopher Pack. Viking Rovers's Phil Guest played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roy Gower in the 61st minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Andy Windsor in the 63rd minute of play forced Huddersfield FC's goalkeeper Dom Cullen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 68 minutes into the match, Viking Rovers's goal looked a bit too open when Karl Picker came free, but Phil Guest reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Aaron Newman's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dom Cullen read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 69th minute of play. If Marty Higginson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Kristian Frost's late challenge caught a Huddersfield FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Kristian Frost helped the player get up and apologised. After 73 played minutes Viking Rovers got a freekick which was hit by Kristian Frost. Phil Guest made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Roy Gower in the 78th minute of play. Andy Windsor kicked well hit freekick during the 86th minute of the match. In the 92ndth minute of the game Aaron Newman who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Huddersfield FC's Dom Cullen was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 95 minutes into the match, Huddersfield FC's Marty Higginson sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Phil Guest narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Roy Gower received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 97th minute. Phil Guest tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Huddersfield FC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
