If Loyd Byrom had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 5th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 18th minute Duncan Draper shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Russ Burbeary saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 21 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Wheaton Aston City! Russ Burbeary made a fantastic save in the 26th minute, when Dane Beaver sent off a good shot on target. Russ Burbeary showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gwyn Wybrow in the 27th minute of the match. Russ Burbeary showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fraser Westlake, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. Runcorn's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gwyn Wybrow was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Dane Beaver to make the kick off. 53 minutes into the match, Duncan Draper notched a goal, 3-0, to the right of Wheaton Aston City's Russ Burbeary. Russ Burbeary was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 58th minute the ball was on its way in behind Wheaton Aston City's goalkeeper Russ Burbeary, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Wheaton Aston City's Russ Burbeary played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gwyn Wybrow in the 59th minute of play. Russ Burbeary made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dane Beaver in the 63rd minute of play. 65 minutes into the match, Wheaton Aston City's goal looked a bit too open when Dane Beaver came free, but Russ Burbeary reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, Runcorn's George Green got control of the ball when Loyd Byrom tried to sneak it across the goal line. Russ Burbeary took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dane Beaver, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Russ Burbeary showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gwyn Wybrow in the 76th minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Dane Beaver's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Russ Burbeary was relentless in the 93rd minute of the game. 96 minutes into the game, Dane Beaver cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 4-0. Russ Burbeary was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Runcorn had played much better football throughout.
