The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Droylsden's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave East Molesey the free kick. In the 18th match minute, Droylsden was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alastair Patterson to maneuver through the defense. 19 minutes into the match, Alastair Patterson notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of East Molesey's Donny Phimister. Donny Phimister was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Jerry Lamb sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Donny Phimister made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hugh Newby in the 34th minute of play. 35 minutes into the match, East Molesey's goal looked a bit too open when Alastair Patterson came free, but Donny Phimister reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 36 minutes, Laurence Nelson mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the East Molesey and the Droylsden players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 36th minute, Laurence Nelson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Donny Phimister showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alastair Patterson in the 38th minute of the match. If Stu Jordan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 47 played minutes Droylsden got a freekick which was hit by Sammy Crowther. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

In the 72nd minute, Alastair Patterson got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Brandon Leather charged in rather forcefully in the 74th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Brandon Leather the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Donny Phimister stood somewhat misplaced when Alastair Patterson came free in front of goal and shot 0-2 to the left of him in the 79 minute. Alastair Patterson could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 82nd minute of the match, but Donny Phimister made a huge save. A collision led to East Molesey getting a freekick after 84 minutes play.
