The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Pete Halford showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Vincent Straker made a fantastic save in the 13th minute, when Derek Pitt sent off a good shot on target. Vincent Straker took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Charles Gunn, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Pete Halford made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fraser Gerrard in the 23rd minute of play. In the 26th minute, Niall Hurst hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After recieving a nice pass, Huddersfield FC's Todd Whittaker tried to score from far away in the 27th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. After 29 minutes, Curtis Hanley mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the East Grinstead and the Huddersfield FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Curtis Hanley hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. After having played for 31 minutes, Charles Gunn managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Huddersfield FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Charles Gunn was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Pete Halford showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fraser Gerrard in the 33rd minute of the match. An unexpected shot in the 35th minute by Derek Pitt got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Fraser Gerrard was the one to do the kick off. In the 53rd match minute, Huddersfield FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cliff Reynolds to maneuver through the defense. Charles Gunn fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vincent Straker having to interfere. Niall Hurst got his second yellow card in the match during the 58th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. After 59 played minutes East Grinstead got a freekick which was hit by Niall Hurst. 60 minutes into the match, Huddersfield FC's Todd Whittaker broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. The supporters of Huddersfield FC booed when East Grinstead was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 66 match minutes in a wonderful position. Matthew Pascoe didn't get a good kick on the ball. Charles Gunn fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vincent Straker having to interfere. Curtis Hanley hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match. 94 minutes into the match, East Grinstead's goal looked a bit too open when Derek Pitt came free, but Vincent Straker reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
